Syllabification: (clas·si·fi·ca·tion)
Pronunciation: \ˌkla-sə-fə-ˈkā-shən\
noun:
systematic arrangement in groups or categories according to established criteria:
Classifications is a compilation of journal entries accumulated over the course of a year. These entries are abbreviated and are represented by incomplete sentences, quotes, or poems. Each entry depicts an event of the artists life as either being pleasant or unclassified. It should be noted that the artist has not written all of the proceeding passages and credit remains with their respective authors; they are solely mentioned in reference to the memories of the artist.
The intended location for the work is within Rancho San Rafael, at the wetlands region of the Evans Creek Trail. The location was selected on the basis of abandonment; not only is the space isolated from the populace, but it carries a narration for what was once there. With personal entries of an individual resonating in the right audio channel from the past, the space allows for the memories of the artist to be revisited, as if they had occurred and lingered in the vacant and deteriorating location from a time long ago.
The work was created as if it were to be installed in the space and continuously played, as opposed to leading a viewer from one location to the next.
If at any time a viewer feels discomforted, do not adjust the volume of the work; instead, remove the right headphone.
This "tour" (of the mind essentially, rather than physical space) was so intriguing! The sound editing was really perfect with all the echos and simplified narration. Even the time/location you chose turned out to be beautiful and almost haunting. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
the hike and setting were gorgeous and nature played to your idea perfectly, well thought out, victoria
ReplyDeleteThe depth in this piece leaves it very open to interpretation, and I'm still not exactly sure what the piece means. Regardless, a very unique sound experience, and something I think could be listened to in any excluded, outdoor space.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I loved about this piece is the way you had the group arranged - I thought that was effective and contemplative in itself. Nice work, as always!
ReplyDeleteThis piece really showed off your sound editing skills. Thank you for sharing your personal thoughts. The setting was beautiful, combined with your thoughtful audio, it allowed me to feel alone even though I was standing next to 20 other people. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThe timing of the whole piece worked out rather spectacularly and you picked a great location. The sun was just setting and it was beautiful to look out into Rancho San Rafael as we listened to the echoing thoughts of a year of your life. It was a strange but very awe-inspiring adventure!
ReplyDeleteThis piece made me calmness and relapse into a thoughtful mood. There was a beauty place to listen to the track, we just had to slow down long enough to find it. The sound and the surrounding environment were matching very well.
ReplyDeleteYour sound composition was very amazing and beautiful. I found your instructions at the beginning nice but ultimately un-needed in the end because I actually felt calmed, and even nostalgic, while listening to your piece. While none of the details said had anything to do with me, the flow of the piece and the idea of reflecting on your own dairy made me reflect on the things within my own life. Looking at such beautiful scenery helped too.
ReplyDeleteI loved this location, and it was perfect timing with the sunset. I also liked that we were stationary while listening to such a unique and peaceful mix of sounds. Such a good job!
ReplyDeleteThe location you picked for the spot was beautiful, and the time of day was absolutely perfect for your piece. The sound of ominous words mixed with the beautiful sunset really helped me become relaxed and yet tensed at the same time. Great mix of sounds and effects here too!
ReplyDeleteThe effect of standing still I. This piece was wonderful and forced the listener to have attention on the audio. I also felt my head feeling "heavy" on the side with piling audio. As if an attempt to pour out the words like excess water from my ear. Excellent delivery and execution.
ReplyDeleteWow, just wow! Great location and timing for the piece. Standing still and listening while experiencing the sun setting was an interesting and unique feeling. This is one of those audio tours that I would do again. Also, kuddos for the high quality cards.
